The Irwin District Museum
The Irwin District Museum is housed in the former Dongara Police Station, Courthouse and Gaol. The building also served as a ticket of leave hiring depot, and police quarters. In 2000, the Society built additional museum display space on the site of the former horse stables at the rear of the building jointly funded by LotteryWest Small Museums Grant and the Society.
Ship Wrecks In the 19th Century Port Irwin offered a safe natural harbour. There was so much damage done to ships calling into this area that some companies refused to provide insurance cover. Many ships have been wrecked or damaged along this windy coastline. You can learn about them on the Ship Wreck Walk located in the Port Denison Foreshore, pick up a free flyer from the Visitors Centre.
Fishermen’s Lookout Obelisk
The Fishermen’s Memorial Lookout and Obelisk was built in remembrance for all the fishermens lives lost at sea. A boardwalk surrounds the Obelisk to allow easy viewing. This is the start of Trail 4 on the Thungara Trails. There are six walks ranging from 2.7km up to 9kms. You can pick up your free map from the Visitors Centre or the Irwin Recreation Centre showing the location of each walk.
Dongara Golf Club
The Dongara Golf Club Par 72 course is a short 5535 metres but quite challenging. The 18 holes of grass greens have some spectacular views of the twin town site of Dongara and Port Denison & Indian Ocean. This course is the best kept secret north of Perth– a real gem.
The wildflower season extends from August to November and the variety and colours of the wildflowers will be sure to enthuse camera buffs. Dongara – Port Denison is a perfect place to be based while touring the Midwest Region in search of Wildflowers. Western Australia is home to 12,000 incredible species of wildflowers, many of which are unique to the State. The huge range, including the popular fields of everlastings can be found within an hour’s drive.

Kick back at our Drive-In Cinema! The Drive-In shows up-to-date movies fortnightly on Saturday evenings during the warmer months. Enjoy watching your favourite stars under the stars! Treats to satisfy at the kiosk. Located next to the Bowling Club on Point Leander Drive, Port Denison.

You can try your luck at the jetties, platform or beaches. Crab nets are available for hire from Breeze Inn.
